Midlands Minerals Reports Significant Widths and Gold Grades on Sian Esaase Deposit-Ghana

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(CCNMatthews - Jan. 16, 2007) - Midlands Minerals Corporation ("Midlands" or the "Company") (TSX VENTURE:MEX) is pleased to announce details of drill intersections on the indicated gold resource on the Sian Esaase deposit in Ghana. The gold resource on Esaase totals 1,232,340 metric tonnes at an average gold grade of 2.24 g/t Au (cut) and 2.62 g/t Au (uncut). The indicated resource was calculated using 0.5 g/t Au cut-off with high-grade cut to 23.76 g/t Au.

Significant intersections are:

Hole ZKES 010-3 intersected 6.67 g/t gold over 23.50 metres,
Hole ZKES 110-3 intersected 3.69 g/t gold over 10.5 metres,
Hole ZKES 060-5 intersected 3.39 g/t gold over 16.2 metres,
Hole ZKE 140-4 intersected 3.46 g/t gold over 25 metres.

"The gold grades are good and the widths are significant. We are pleased with the quality of the intersections and with the significant potential this could present for open pit operations on the Esaase deposit. Midlands will focus on increasing the total ore tonnage on the Sian property by drilling along lateral and downdip extensions," said Marc Boisvert, P.Eng. and Midlands' Vice President Exploration.

Oxide Zone 125,000 tonnes grading 2.65 g/t (cut), 3.16 g/t Au (uncut)
Sulphide Zone 1,230,000 tonnes grading 2.24 g/t (cut), 2.63 g/t Au (uncut)
Total 1,355,000 tonnes grading 2.28/t (cut)

The above indicated resource has been reviewed by Marc Boisvert P.Eng., a Qualified Person within the meaning of National Instrument 43-101.

The Company is in the process of completing geophysical induced polarization (IP) surveys and detailed soil geochemistry on Sian and Kwahu Praso properties. The objective is to increase the indicated resource as soon as possible by locating lateral extensions and adjacent targets for detailed evaluation.

Kwahu Praso and Sian are contiguous and together present a promising exploration opportunity along a 16 km soil anomalous trend. Induced Polarization (IP) surveys are being conducted by Sagax Afrique S.A. under contract to Midlands. The results of the IP surveys together with the detailed soil geochemistry will give Midlands the ability to locate additional drill targets.

Sian is a past open pit gold producer. Further drilling on the Sian property is expected to commence in March 2007 on the resource extensions and other adjacent targets following a complete review of the results of the IP and detailed soil surveys.
