Members of the media are invited to attend the DevConnections 2009 breakout session titled, "Is Traditional Tape Backup Dead?" to learn about trends in data management for data protection, storage growth and legal discovery.

"New requirements for records retention and search for legal discovery are compounding the traditional storage management pains including the cost of downtime and the increasing costs of tier-1 storage," said Bob Spurzem. "This presentation will explore how each of these pain points can be addressed through new trends in archiving solutions that take a holistic approach to storage management, data protection and data retention."

The session will begin with a review of email application growth, followed by Windows file share growth and finally with Microsoft Office SharePoint Server (MOSS). Best practices for data protection and the impact of low-cost disk technology will also be examined. The session will be useful for administrators and IT managers who are responsible for technology spending and planning.
