Minister Clement Re-Appoints CEO to the Canadian Centre on Substance Abuse

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Nov. 6, 2007) - The Honourable Tony Clement, Minister of Health, today announced and congratulated Michel Perron on his re-appointment as Chief Executive Officer of the Canadian Centre on Substance Abuse (CCSA) for a five-year term.

"The Canadian Centre on Substance Abuse has benefitted greatly from the strong leadership of Mr. Perron," said Minister Clement. "I am confident that under his guidance, the CCSA will continue to flourish as an important part of this government's work to create a healthy and safe society, free of the harms associated with addiction."

Since his appointment as Chief Executive Officer of the CCSA in 1999, Mr. Perron has been successful in strengthening the CCSA, and by working with various levels of government, and the not-for-profit and private sectors, Mr. Perron was instrumental in the development of the National Framework for Action to Reduce the Harm caused by Alcohol, Illicit Drugs and Substances, as well as the National Alcohol Policy for Canada.

Mr. Perron is the Vice-Chair of the United Nations Vienna Non-Government Organization Committee on Narcotic Drugs, as well as the past president and founding member of the Canadian Executive Council on Addictions. He holds a degree in Sociology from the University of Winnipeg and completed the Advanced Management Program at the Harvard School of Business.

The Canadian Centre on Substance Abuse is Canada's national addictions agency and is supported by Health Canada through Canada's National Anti-Drug Strategy. Established by an Act of Parliament in 1988, CCSA provides objective, evidence based information and advice aimed at reducing the health, social and economic harm associated with substance abuse and addictions.
