Minister Josee Verner Announces Funding for the Festival franco-ontarien

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(CCNMatthews - May 15, 2006) - Minister of International Cooperation and Minister for La Francophonie and Official Languages Josee Verner today announced $100,000 in funding for the 2006 Festival franco-ontarien. The funds will help finance the Festival's activities, particularly its artistic programming.

"The Festival franco-ontarien is a striking example of the cultural vitality of the Francophone community in the National Capital Region," said Minister Verner. "My Government is proud to contribute to this festival that, every year, brings together Francophone artists from across the country. The Festival franco-ontarien and other similar events organized within the Canadian francophonie are proof of the vitality of our communities and contribute to Canadian society as a whole."

Financial assistance is provided by the Department of Canadian Heritage through its Development of Official-Language Communities Program. This program encourages the development of official-language minority communities in Canada to enable them to participate in all aspects of Canadian life.
