Minister Kenney Announces Citizenship Judge Appointment

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Jan. 18, 2010) - Sharon Margaret (Otsuki) Robertson has been appointed Citizenship Judge in Kitchener, Ontario, for a three-year part-time term, Citizenship, Immigration and Multiculturalism Minister Jason Kenney announced today.

Prior to her appointment, Judge Robertson was a leading educator, having worked as an educational consultant with the Learning Ways and Integrated Centre for Optimal Learning, and as a principal and teacher in the Waterloo Region. She has also presented internationally on learning strategies while in New York, Hong Kong and England.

Judge Robertson is recognized as a community leader, sitting on the University of Waterloo Senate and is the recipient of several awards, including the Kitchener-Waterloo Woman of the Year Award and the Dr. Floyd White Award for her outstanding contribution to the teaching profession. Judge Robertson has a Master of Education from Brock University.

Citizenship judges are responsible for making decisions with regard to citizenship applications, presiding over citizenship ceremonies and administering the oath of citizenship to new citizens.
