Minister Moore Declares November 15th to be National Philanthropy Day

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Oct. 21, 2009) - We are fortunate to have a healthy and vibrant charitable sector and a strong tradition of philanthropy in Canada.

The philanthropic spirit of giving is central to the values of Canadians and is worthy of recognition, whether it be donating or volunteering.

Our Government encourages Canadians to recognize this worthy day and the actions of all those who have given of themselves to make Canada and the world a better place.

Therefore, I declare that the 15th day of November in each and every year shall be recognized throughout Canada as National Philanthropy Day.

The recognition of this special day will help to further the important work of those involved in the philanthropic community while encouraging the generosity of Canadians.

This day will belong to all Canadians. This declaration expresses our desire to unite our citizens in humanity and shared values like freedom, peace, respect, justice and tolerance that are so vital for the continuing development of the society in which we live.
