Minister Unveils Veterans' Week 2009 Poster

FREDERICTON, NEW BRUNSWICK--(Marketwire - Oct. 16, 2009) - The Honourable Greg Thompson, Minister of Veterans Affairs, was joined by area Veterans and students from George Street Junior High School as he unveiled the Veterans' Week 2009 poster today in Fredericton.

"The Veterans' Week 2009 poster pays tribute to Canada's men and women in uniform who have selflessly served our country over the years," said Minister Thompson. "It also encourages all Canadians to take a moment to think about how they will remember the countless contributions of our Veterans."

The 2009 poster features a prominent image of a young girl drawing a poppy. In the background, a Second World War Veteran proudly salutes and members of the Canadian Forces stand at attention. The images reflect the theme of the 2009 Veterans' Week campaign How will you remember? The campaign encourages Canadians to take remembrance one step further and actively participate in remembrance activities.

Each year, Veterans Affairs Canada produces a poster to create awareness and pay tribute to Veterans who served Canada during war and in peacekeeping operations around the world. The poster and other Veterans' Week educational materials are being distributed to schools and communities across the country, reminding Canadians that our Veterans' achievements and sacrifices must not be forgotten.
