Minister of Veterans Affairs Visits Head Office

CHARLOTTETOWN, PRINCE EDWARD ISLAND--(Marketwire - March 26, 2010) - The Honourable Jean-Pierre Blackburn, recently appointed Minister of Veterans Affairs and Minister of State (Agriculture), made his first visit to Veterans Affairs Head Office in Charlottetown today. The visit included meeting with Veterans, employees and other guests. 

"I really enjoyed speaking with staff in Charlottetown and seeing firsthand how we operate on a day to day basis," said Minister Blackburn. "It was moving to hear so many employees express their sincere commitment to Veterans. And like them, I am honoured to work on behalf of those who have given so much to Canada."

Jean-Pierre Blackburn was first elected to the House of Commons in 1984 and re-elected in 1988, 2006 and 2008. He was sworn in as Minister of Veterans Affairs on January 19, 2010.
Minister Blackburn has been a teacher, administrator and businessman.

Veterans Affairs Canada's Head Office has been in Charlottetown for almost 30 years and currently has about 1,400 employees.
