Hope and resolve inspire the first Candlelight Walk for Missing Children

BURNABY, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(Marketwire - Sept. 24, 2009) -

WHERE: Deer Lake Park (east entrance via Sperling Drive)
Burnaby, BC

WHEN: Saturday, September 26, 2009
4:00pm - event start time
5:00pm - Walk start time
7:00pm - candlelight vigil

WHAT:
- The first ever Candlelight Walk for Missing Children will officially kick
off this Saturday at 4:00pm at Deer Lake Park.

- Four searching families of missing children from BC worked together to
organize the event, which is in support of the Missing Children Society
of Canada (MCSC).

- A candlelight vigil will follow the Walk at 7pm in remembrance of the many
children across our country who are still missing. The vigil is expected
to be emotionally and visually powerful, as all in attendance gather
together to help light the way home for our missing children.

- Speakers / interview opportunities will include:
-- Several searching families from the local area, including the families
of:
--- Bryan Braumberger - missing from Burnaby, BC since May 31, 2007
--- Jeffrey Surtel - missing from Mission, BC since April 29, 2007
--- Brittany Stalman - missing from North Delta, BC since November 13, 2006
--- Lindsey Nicholls - missing from Comox Valley, BC since August 2, 1993
-- Marilyne Aalhus, Director of Development, MCSC

WHY:
- An average of 60,000 children are reported missing every year in Canada.
That's the equivalent of 1 child every 9 minutes.

- MCSC helps approximately 300 searching families every year and has
assisted police in closing over 5,800 missing children cases since 1986.
