Mitrionics Awarded Funding From VINNOVA for Portable Parallel Programming Project

LOS GATOS, CA--(Marketwire - November 17, 2009) - Mitrionics, Inc., the technology leader in FPGA-based hybrid computing, reports that VINNOVA, the Swedish governmental agency for innovation systems, today announced that it has awarded 3,826,000 SEK (approximately $555,000 USD) in funding for Mitrionics' Portable Parallel Programming project. This is within the framework of the Forska&Vax (Research&Grow) program that focuses on R&D in small and medium enterprises (SMEs). Mitrionics is currently demonstrating a proof-of-concept for the new portable parallel programming technology at the Supercomputing 2009 Conference in Portland, Oregon.

"This support and acknowledgment is an important milestone for Mitrionics as it allows us to put the resources into the project to give it the kick-start needed to bring it to the market in a timely manner," says Magnus Hjern, president and CEO of Mitrionics, Inc.

Currently, the Mitrion Accelerated Computing Platform is designed to provide researchers and developers with the latest parallel programming tools for FPGAs that do not require any hardware design knowledge or experience. Mitrionics' new proof of concept targeting multi-cores and clusters, shows the potential of Mitrion-C as a truly portable parallel programming language, unlocking the full potential of hybrid computers. The Mitrion Platform enables rapid development of new accelerated applications in bioinformatics, computer-aided design, data mining, financial services, government/defense, and oil and gas industries. Systems running applications accelerated using the Mitrion Platform generally perform 10x to 100x faster than traditional systems while decreasing electrical power requirements by ninety percent.
