MobileMonday is a global, open community that brings together decision makers, developers, researchers, and venture capital through monthly events, international events and chapter social networks.

Since its start in Helsinki, Finland back in 2000, MobileMonday's concept of openness and community has inspired mobile professionals around the world to help the mobile industry flourish in their local region. The MobileMonday model only became successful globally when the open community concept was internationalized as part of a strategy brought forth by its current CEO, Jari Tammisto, in 2004.

Since its early beginnings, MobileMonday has exploded onto the world scene with a footprint that now spans 50 countries, 80 regions and 84 chapters worldwide. It is for this success that Jari Tammisto, MobileMonday's current CEO, was presented with the International Brand Leadership Award (http://www.worldbrandcongress.com/awards.html) at the World Brand Congress in November 2009. And for only the second time that an award has been given to a community, the President of Finland, Tarja Halonen, presented Jari Tammisto with a special internationalization award for his efforts behind MobileMonday.

Said Jari Tammisto at the World Brand Congress, "I am delighted to see that our open operating model is recognized now as the hottest trend in brand building. Five years ago we identified it as the most effective way to globalize our operations, and now companies, communities and universities throughout the world are exploring and analyzing our model and its applicability to various companies and industries."

In November 2005, Mr. Alexander S. Bosika and Mr. Jim Brown, two mobile executives in the Toronto area met to discuss the launch of a Toronto chapter. Without a venue, a community or a sponsor, Mr. Bosika traveled to MobileMonday's May 2006 Global Summit in Helsinki, Finland with encouragement from Mr. Tammisto to represent Toronto and to promote Toronto's vibrant community of developers, venture capitalists and telecom operators to an international audience. With the Global Summit as a backdrop, the Toronto chapter successfully launched in June 2006.

Since 2006, the Toronto chapter has successfully grown from a grassroots community into a "movement of ideas" and now represents itself as the platform for Canadian mobile thought leadership with dedicated sponsorship and support from Marketwire (www.marketwire.com) and the Canadian Wireless Telecommunications Association (www.cwta.ca). In early 2009, MobileMonday Toronto announced a significant partnership with MaRS, a non- profit innovation centre that stimulates innovation, entrepreneurship and the creation of successful Canadian companies. Since holding its monthly events at the MaRS Discovery District, monthly events have averaged over 200 attendees.

Jari Tammisto, "This award is a great accomplishment for the global movement of MobileMonday. Since 2006, MobileMonday Toronto has worked very hard to build a successful chapter and community by leveraging the global brand and its recent partnership with MaRS to further enhance mobile thought leadership locally and across Canada."

The Brand Leadership Award was presented to Jari Tammisto in the annual World Brand Congress in Mumbai, India. The award is the most important personal recognition granted in the congress, the congress organizers state. The decision upon a person receiving the award was made by a jury consisting of seasoned industry professionals. Criteria include person's merits, personal values, business ethics and a contribution to the development of the marketing industry.

Prior to Jari Tammisto the Brand Leadership Award has been presented to numerous marketing industry professionals ranging from Mohammad Al Mulla, Executive Director, Dubai Media City; Prof. Renee Mauborgne, author of "Blue Ocean Strategy"; Kevin Roberts, CEO Worldwide, Saatchi & Saatchi; to David Jones, Global CEO, Euro RSCG.

On December 7th, MobileMonday Toronto, Canada's leading wireless industry networking group will host and provide an update on the evolution of Canada's wireless industry with special guest Anthony Lacavera, CEO of Globalive. This event is held in conjunction with MobileMonday Toronto's partnership with MaRS, and is expected to be the largest mobile event in Canada for 2009. The interest in this session stems from the current policy situation that the Canadian Federal Government currently finds itself in.
