Model Metrics Announces the 500th Model Enterprise

The Model Enterprise Defines Cloud Computing in 2010: Mobility, Utilization of Multiple Clouds and Leverage of Flexible Cloud Platforms to Create Custom Applications

CHICAGO, IL--(Marketwire - August 24, 2010) - Model Metrics, the leader in cloud computing services for the enterprise, announces a major milestone in the company's seven year history with the 500th Model Enterprise. Following a project for International Aid Services (IAS) America, the company has now led 500 organizations to become Model Enterprises through the strategic implementation of cloud computing. Model Metrics is one of the most experienced cloud computing service providers with more than 1,300 cloud computing implementations. The company is distinguished for its expertise in custom, mobile and multi-cloud enterprise deployments, as well as its transparent and philanthropic culture, which attracts the industry's most skilled developers and consultants.

The definition of the Model Enterprise -- multi-cloud, custom and mobile -- reflects seven years of expertise implementing custom cloud computing solutions for organizations large and small.

The Model Enterprise:

  • Takes advantage of "Cloud Mixology." This means leveraging the flexible nature of leading cloud platforms and complementary technologies from providers such as Adobe, Amazon Web Services, Apple, Google and salesforce.com to create solutions that are easily portable across cloud technologies, architectures and mobile deployment languages. In an analysis of more than 1,300 Model Metrics implementations, there has been a 76 percent increase over the past seven years in multi-cloud (versus single cloud) solutions to meet an enterprise's exact requirements.
  • Knows there is not a "one size fits all" approach to cloud computing solutions or deployments. As cloud computing has evolved from simple departmental implementations to more strategic enterprise-wide initiatives, the needs and business processes vary greatly. This is particularly true in industries such as life sciences, consumer packaged goods (CPG) and retail where automation of business processes is highly customized and regulated.
  • Arms its workforce by extending the cloud, whether on or offline, to any mobile device. With the market for smart phones expected to grow nearly 200 percent from 2009 to 2013(1) due to the adoption of HTML5, increased mobile broadband coverage and the need for always-on collaborative services for the enterprise, this is a huge area of focus for any enterprise with a mobile workforce.

Today, Model Metrics is proud to announce IAS America as the 500th Model Enterprise. IAS is a humanitarian organization, which assists in disaster areas and brings aid and development into third world countries. IAS America provides small loans to the poor in third world nations through Mifos, which is an industry-wide open source technology initiative led and driven by the Grameen Foundation to address information management in microfinance.

Model Metrics enabled the solution on Amazon Web Services utilizing Elastic Block Storage (EBS), Simple Storage Services (S3) and Elastic Cloud Compute (EC2) to streamline the process of deploying the Mifos platform to global non-profit organizations such as IAS, which has over 250 staff and 37 offices in 18 countries around the world. Model Metrics donated services to the project as part of the company's 1/1/1 corporate philanthropy initiative.

Modeling a New Breed of Business in the Cloud
Model Metrics' innovation extends beyond technical expertise to how it runs its business:

  • Model Metrics represents the new model for services firms in the age of the cloud: transparency thrives across every aspect of the business, everyone's opinion counts and employees are exposed to the latest technologies to advance their skills and careers. The company is able to attract the best team in the industry by fostering an open and transparent culture that is as much of a stark contrast to traditional services firms as the technology and agile development methodologies used.
  • Philanthropy is core to the company. Model Metrics' 1/1/1 model was inspired by a similar program at salesforce.com, and gives back one percent of time, one percent of profits and one percent to the earth. As part of the company's Model Citizen culture, employees volunteer in local communities with Habitat for Humanity, sponsored microfinance projects through Kiva.org and help nonprofits such IAS, Center for Economic Progress and One Acre Fund to implement cloud technologies.
  • Model Metrics runs its own business entirely in the cloud, and doesn't own a single server.
