Mondial Choral Loto-Quebec Receives $439,000 From Government of Canada to Implement a Promotion Strategy Outside Quebec

LAVAL, QUEBEC--(Marketwire - May 3, 2010) - The Honourable Denis Lebel, Minister of State for Canada Economic Development, today announced the awarding of $439,000 in non-repayable funding to the Corporation du Mondial Choral. Part of this funding will go toward promoting, on Canadian and international markets, the 6th and 7th editions of the Mondial Choral, a unique annual event dedicated to choirs singing in all its forms. In 2009, a first instalment was used to carry out a variety of promotional activities.

The Mondial Choral is a major cultural event as the $12,080,000 investment it requires as well as the creation and maintenance of 45 full-time jobs it generates testify. This great gathering of choirs and vocal groups will be supported by an advertising campaign including the production and dissemination of promotional material, advertising placement in media outside Quebec and participation in international trade shows.

"With world tourism markets, both existing and new, competing to attract travellers, it is increasingly important that we redouble marketing efforts to present Canada as a source of enriching experiences. The festivals and other cultural and sports events held across the country throughout the year are certainly exceptional showcases. Thanks to its promotion strategy, Mondial Choral, already a vital part of the Laval region's tourism offering, will be able to increase and diversify its clientele. Indeed, annual economic spinoffs resulting from the presence of visitors from outside Quebec are expected to reach $1.8 million by 2011. By strengthening its drawing power, the Mondial Choral will also be enhancing Laval's national and international reputation as the choir capital of Canada," said the Minister of State.

This contribution has been granted through Canada Economic Development's Community Diversification program, a measure whose aims include helping communities build their capacity to attract and retain tourists.
