Montreal Alouettes: Training Camp Report-Day 3

SAINT-JEAN-SUR-LE-RICHELIEU, QUEBEC--(CCNMatthews - May 23, 2006) - The following is today's recap of the Montreal Alouettes' training camp now taking place at the Campus du Fort Saint-Jean.

D-Line... so fine

According to Coach Matthews, Anwar Stewart's game is on the rise. Along with Clinton Wayne and the additions of Jerome Haywood and Dario Romero, the Alouettes' defensive line has shown significant improvement from last season.

Two arrivals

Defensive tackle Tony Akpan from University of Hawaii and rush end Deion Holts from Western Kentucky University have been added to the training camp roster.

Two departures

Running back Sultan McCullough was released by the Alouettes yesterday, while fullback George Layne has decided to retire from professional football.

Coach Matthews' comment

About a possible edge that Nealon Greene might have over the other quarterbacks because of his history with Coach Matthews: "I don't care if Nealon Greene was living in my basement, it wouldn't make a difference."

Bumps 'n' bruises

The following players left today's practice with minor injuries: Eric Lapointe (hamstring), Dave Mudge (ankle), Kerry Watkins (hamstring) and Clinton Wayne (hamstring).

Tomorrow's schedule

Two consecutive practices starting at 8 a.m. at the Stade Haut-Richelieu.
