Montreal Alouettes: Training Camp Report-Day 7

SAINT-JEAN-SUR-RICHELIEU, QUEBEC--(CCNMatthews - May 27, 2006) - The following is today's recap of the Montreal Alouettes' training camp now taking place at the Campus du Fort Saint-Jean.

Crucial points

Kickers Damon Duval and Christopher Milo and the special teams practiced during the first portion of this morning's workout. The main emphasis was on field goal and missed field goal returns.

Defensive end Mawuko Tugbenyoh was released yesterday.

First-year stand-out

Rookie defensive end D.D. Achonolu's motor never stops. In this morning's first practice his backfield presence was felt on many occasions, one of these times ending in a perfectly timed jump to swat down a pass.

Refs enforce the law

Canadian Football League's Supervisor of referees in the Jacques Decarie and five of his officials attended practice today with the intention of enforcing the rules of a normal game into the practice. Decarie and his group also briefed the players and coaches on the new rule changes that will be in effect in the CFL in 2006.

Alouettes Air Force

Out of all the units on the field today the receiving corps showed up the most. Many of them had spectacular catches, including Sylvain Girard who laid out for an unbelievable diving catch.

Matthews fight rule

After a couple of traditional training camp "scraps", Coach Matthews reminded his players of the two-punch rule. "First two punches are free and then, it's a 10$ fine per punch," he told his players.

First-year players to give show

It is the traditional rookie night tonight. Players will put away their playbooks for the night and will enjoy a little fun at training camp.

Tomorrow's schedule

Practice will start at 2 p.m. at the Campus du Fort Saint-Jean.
