Montreal Alouettes: Training Camp Report-Day 9

SAINT-JEAN-SUR-RICHELIEU, QUEBEC--(CCNMatthews - May 29, 2006) - The following is today's recap of the Montreal Alouettes' training camp now taking place at the Campus du Fort Saint-Jean.

Short practice

The Alouettes began preparation for their June 2 pre-season game at Winnipeg. Today's workout consisted of one two-hour practice.

Two players released

Defensive corners Rushen Jones and Jeremy Pearl were released.

Bell update

Defensive halfback Ricky Bell was on site at training camp today. He did not practice, but rather took the opportunity to work his muscles into training-camp shape. According to Coach Matthews, Bell will have the chance to get his body back in shape this week and will play in the second pre-season game. He has yet to pass his medical.

Calvillo to get the day off

Coach Matthews announced that quarterback Anthony Calvillo will not be part of the first trip to Winnipeg. That means fans will get the chance to see one or all of Nealon Greene, Marcus Brady and Scott McBrien against the Bombers.

Coach Matthews' comment

About the type of injury suffered by Ed Philion: "I think it's a groin or a hamstring... or maybe just veteran fatigue."

Beautiful day

The Alouettes enjoyed a second straight day of gorgeous weather with the sun shining and the temperature hovering around 24 C.

Tomorrow's schedule

Practice will start at 9 a.m. at the Campus du Fort Saint-Jean.
