Montreal Welcomes the Montreal International Black Film Festival From September 23 to 27, 2009

MONTREAL, QUEBEC--(Marketwire - Sept. 1, 2009) - The Fabienne Colas Foundation is pleased and proud to announce the inauguration of the Montreal International Black Film Festival. This newly created festival will present the 5th edition of the Montreal International Haitian Film Festival (MIHFF) from September 23 to 27, 2009. "It's our desire to be more inclusive and more open that has led us to create this festival. The Montreal International Black Film Festival will allow us to continue to diversify the types of films available in Quebec and to create more opportunities for new encounter." explains Fabienne Colas.

And next year, in 2010, in addition to the MIHFF, the Montreal International Black Film Festival will also present two additional events: a festival of English black films and a festival of French black films. Together, these three film festivals will make for a rich, dynamic and refreshing line-up of films that will delight all film buffs in Montreal.

The Montreal International Black Film Festival wants to promote a different kind of cinema, a cinema that makes us think, whether it hails from here or abroad. It wants to put the spotlight on groundbreaking cinema that moves us, that raises awareness and takes us all by surprise! It aims to boldly promote films on the realities of English-speaking and French-speaking black peoples from the four corners of the globe. The Montreal International Black Film Festival wants to deal with issues and present works that raise questions, that provoke, that make us smile, that leave us perplexed, that shock us...

The Montreal International Black Film Festival will have its own Website in 2010. Until then, visit www.festivalfilmhaitien.com for further information.

About the Fabienne Colas Foundation

The Fabienne Colas Foundation has become a major player in the promotion of Haitian cinema, art and culture on the international scene. In the spirit of building bridges between Quebec and Haiti, in addition to organizing Haiti on Fire (evenings of shows and movies under the stars in Montreal) and the Montreal and Quebec City International Haitian Film Festival, the Foundation also launched the 1st Quebecois Film Festival in Haiti in March 2009 as part of the Journee internationale de la francophonie. The first edition of this festival proved to be a great success.
