More Than 35,000 Canadians Joined Movember's Third Annual Fight Against Prostate Cancer

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Dec. 1, 2009) - Movember, the month formerly known as November, is proud to share that 35,068 Canadians across the country joined the movement by growing a Mo (slang for moustache) and supporting men's health issues. This year over $6.3 million has been raised for Prostate Cancer Canada, with funds continuing to pour in.

"This has been such an incredible year for Movember - we more than exceeded our goals and saw participation from St. John's to Vancouver Island," said Movember Co-Founder and CEO Adam Garone. "It was amazing to see so many Mo Bros and Mo Sistas get on board and engage their families, friends, colleagues and communities to be a part of the Movember movement. We can't wait to see what Movember 2010 will bring."

Movember is a month long fundraising campaign where male participants, known as Mo Bros, start the month of November with a clean shaven mug, then grow their stylish moustache throughout the month. This hairy ribbon is designed to start conversations about prostate cancer and men's health issues. Women or Mo Sistas, aren't left out. They can help by getting the word out, recruiting Mo Bros to participate and collecting donations for Prostate Cancer Canada.

"We are so pleased with the success of Movember and the awareness that has been raised about prostate cancer in Canada," said Steve Jones, President and CEO, Prostate Cancer Canada. "Thanks to the thousands of Mo Bros and Sistas who participated in a record year for Movember. The money raised will go to much needed research, and will create more awareness around prostate cancer, which afflicts one in six Canadian men in their lifetime."

For Mo Bros and Mo Sistas, there are some great prizes to be won, so keep up the good work. The close for prizing is December 9th, 2009 at 5:00 p.m. EST. The International Man of Movember will be announced in December. If you haven't had a chance to donate yet, it isn't too late. For more information visit

Movember is the world's biggest event supporting men's health, continuously working to increase awareness of prostate cancer within the community and change the attitude men have about their health.

This year's Canadian Movember campaign was sponsored by Canadian Club, Dermalogica, smart Canada, and WAHL.

About Movember

Movember is a global charity event that invites men to grow moustaches (or Mos) for the month of November. The moustache serves as the 'ribbon' and the vehicle by which participants in Movember raise funds and awareness for men's health - specifically prostate and testicular cancer. Movember aims to reduce the number of preventable male deaths by raising funds and creating awareness for cancer affecting men. Since Movember's inception in 2003, over 372,000 Mo Bros have grown moustaches to change the face of men's health. For more information please visit
