TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Oct. 29, 2009) - Movember, the month formerly known as November, is here and it's time to join men across the country by growing a Mo (slang for moustache) and supporting men's health issues. Starting Movember 1st, male participants known as Mo Bros, start the month of Movember with a clean shaven mug, then grow their stylish moustache throughout the month. This hairy ribbon is designed to start conversations about prostate cancer and men's health issues. Register today and help change the face of men's health by raising funds and awareness for Prostate Cancer Canada at

"Prostate cancer is the most common cancer affecting Canadian men and it is over 90 per cent curable if detected and treated in its earliest stages," said Steve Jones, President and CEO, Prostate Cancer Canada. "Movember is a powerful initiative that raises awareness with many different age groups. Raising awareness goes a long way to early detection, and ultimately, changing the face of men's health."

Women or Mo Sistas, aren't left out. They can help by getting the word out, recruiting Mo Bros to participate and collecting donations for Prostate Cancer Canada. Mo Bros and Mo Sistas celebrate the Mo at the end of November, attending Movember's costumed Gala Partes and vie for the titles of Man of Movember and Miss Movember. Gala Partes will be held in Halifax, Montreal, Toronto, Calgary, Edmonton, Vancouver and Victoria. Details for these events are posted on

"We are really excited to see Canadian's embracing the Movember movement this year," said Movember Co-Founder and CEO Adam Garone, "Registration is significantly up and people are really engaged - hosting Mo parties, creating teams, and getting their communities involved. It's a grassroots campaign that is making its way across Canada and it's sending a very powerful message."

Mo shave-offs will be happening across the country to help men start Movember with a clean shaven face. To find a shave-off near you, please visit

Since its inception in 2003, Movember has raised over $51 million (CAD) globally, and is continuously working to increase awareness of prostate cancer within the community and change the attitude men have about their health. Movember is the world's biggest event supporting men's health.

This year's Canadian Movember campaign will be sponsored by Canadian Club, Dermalogica, smart Canada, and WAHL.

About Movember

Movember is a global charity event that invites men to grow moustaches (or Mos) for the month of November. The moustache serves as the 'ribbon' and the vehicle by which participants in Movember raise funds and awareness for men's health - specifically prostate and testicular cancer. Movember aims to reduce the number of preventable male deaths by raising funds and creating awareness for cancer affecting men. Since Movember's inception in 2003, over 372,000 Mo Bros have grown moustaches to change the face of men's health. For more information please visit
