Moxair LCD Backlight Control IP Core Increases Battery Life of Cell Phones, Netbooks and Laptops by up to 40 Percent

Moxair Expands LCD Backlight Control Product Line With Release of LCD Backlight Control Hardware IP Core

NEWPORT BEACH, CA--(Marketwire - December 2, 2009) - Moxair, a supplier of unique LCD backlight control products, today announced the availability of its Moxair PowerPure Hardware logic core. This innovative new product reduces display power by up to 70 percent, extending the battery life of cell phones, PDAs, netbooks, and laptops by over 40 percent.

Moxair's Content Adaptive Backlight Control Technology dramatically reduces the backlight power consumption of LCD displays while maintaining the highest quality of video and graphics playback. Moxair's prior PowerPure products are implemented in software for embedded platforms such ARM11 and TI OMAP. Moxair PowerPure Hardware further improves system power savings and eases implementation across multiple platforms, independent of the software operating system.

"The Moxair PowerPure technology provides an extraordinary level of power savings at an uncompromised level of display quality," stated Markus Tremmel, worldwide wireless ecosystem manager for Texas Instruments, when discussing the TI-OMAP demonstration of Moxair at the industry trade show CTIA.

Moxair PowerPure Hardware interfaces easily with LCD controllers or media co-processor blocks in mobile systems. PowerPure Hardware is a technology independent hardware module that can be integrated using the standard interfaces of existing LCD controllers or media processor ICs. It has a small form factor and has no impact on the existing pin footprint.

"Moxair's products are based on unique, patent-pending technology that results in more than three times the power savings of competing products, while maintaining identical image quality," noted Anurag Bist, CEO for Moxair. "With PowerPure Hardware, more systems can now easily integrate our industry-leading backlight control technology."

Designers insert the Moxair PowerPure Hardware IP core in the data flow prior to LCD display. The Moxair IP takes RGB data from the line buffer and outputs RGB data to the LCD display. The PowerPure Hardware IP core decides how to dynamically change the RGB content of a given frame, and the appropriate backlight to use for the given frame based on a number of factors that include, the current RGB image content, tracking of the scene change and use of history of the image sequence statistics. The Moxair IP is capable of handling video resolution up to 1080p at 40fps.

Moxair PowerPure Hardware IP is now available for licensing into new designs. Please visit www.moxair.com for more information.
