NASM and the California University of Pennsylvania Select Latest Pursuit of Excellence in Health and Fitness Award Winners

Two Fitness Professionals Awarded $15,000 in Tuition Grants to Enroll in Graduate Degree Program

CALABASAS, CA--(Marketwire - June 23, 2010) -  The National Academy of Sports Medicine® (NASM®), a global leader in personal trainer certification, corrective exercise, and sports performance training, and its higher education partner, California University of Pennsylvania (CalU), today announced Phillip Brauch and Michael Spiegel as the Summer 2010 Pursuit of Excellence in Health and Fitness Award recipients. 

Brauch and Spiegel will be rewarded for their accomplishments and dedication within the fitness industry by receiving full tuition, valued at more than $15,000 each, towards a Master of Science in Exercise Science and Health Promotion at CalU. During the 2010-2011 academic year, each will choose a specialization in one of the school's four, internet-based tracks: Fitness and Wellness; Sports Performance Enhancement and Injury Prevention; Rehabilitation Science or Sports Psychology. 

"Each of these dynamic individuals has very different career aspirations, however both have shown dedication to the industry and to helping others live better lives," said Dr. Micheal Clark, NASM Chief Executive Officer. "With the education received from CalU they will gain an in-depth knowledge of exercise science and health promotion, and be better equipped to take their current health and fitness training programs to the next level." 

Brauch, an Alumni of Butler University, was a Division I athlete all through his undergraduate studies and continues his love for athletics today through his work with professional athletes. Having worked as a strength and conditioning intern with the Indianapolis Colts and Chicago Bears, Brauch hopes to continue his work in the professional arena and looks forward to using the comprehensive knowledge CalU's Sports Performance Enhancement and Injury Prevention track offers.

Spiegel graduated from New School University in New York and now describes himself as a "career trainer" with a true love for helping others live healthier lifestyles. Spiegel currently serves as Assistant Personal Training Manager and as a personal trainer for Crunch Fitness and hopes this award will help him advance his career by refining his knowledge, ultimately improving results for his personal training clients.
