NCSBN Publishes Three New Research Briefs


CHICAGO, IL--(Marketwire - April 21, 2010) -  The National Council of State Boards of Nursing, Inc. (NCSBN®) sets an ambitious research agenda designed to advance the science of nursing regulation. NCSBN recently added to its body of research the publication of three new briefs titled, Nurse Licensee Volume and NCLEX Examination Statistics, Report of Findings from the 2009 LPN/VN Nursing Knowledge Survey and 2009 LPN/VN Practice Analysis: Linking the NCLEX-PN Examination to Practice.

2008 Nurse Licensee Volume and NCLEX Examination Statistics(https://www.ncsbn.org/10_2008NCLEXExamStats_Vol42_web_links.pdf) is an annual publication that provides national and state summary data of member boards' licensure activities, as well as data on candidate performance on the NCLEX-RN and NCLEX-PN examinations.

Report of Findings from the 2009 LPN/VN Nursing Knowledge Survey (https://www.ncsbn.org/10_LPN_VN_NursingKnowledgeSurvey_Vol43_web.pdf) identifies the knowledge needed by newly licensed LPN/VNs. The results of this study (i.e., the important knowledge statements) will be used to inform item development.

2009 LPN/VN Practice Analysis: Linking the NCLEX-PN Examination to Practice (https://www.ncsbn.org/10_LPN_VN_PracticeAnalysis_Vol44_web.pdf) describes LPN/VN practice to assist NCSBN in evaluating the validity of the test plan that guides content distribution of the licensure examination.

NCSBN offers 44 volumes of research that include practice analyses and national surveys of the profession, covering topics such as nursing education and professional issues. Previously only available for purchase through NCSBN, these research briefs are now downloadable free of charge by visiting www.ncsbn.org.
