NDP Momentum Monitor: Ontarians Vote Hampton's "Fair Deal" Campaign a Winner-Two Weeks in a Row

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Sept. 29, 2007) - Election Day may still be over a week away, but ordinary Ontarians have already declared Howard Hampton's campaign for a Fair Deal for working families the winner.

Today's Ottawa Citizen trumpets that Hampton has, for the second week in a row, been named "Campaign Megastar" receiving the most votes from Citizen readers. The results of the interactive web game placed the campaign of hometown-boy Dalton McGuinty far behind in third place - securing the "turkey prize" for the third consecutive week.

"Tory wobbles, McGuinty gobbles; Hampton wins Week 4, while opponents fade in online contest

The Ottawa Citizen, September 29, 2007

While official election polls show his party mired in third place with little more than a week to go in the Ontario provincial campaign, the NDP leader is faring far better in his bid to capture a title with a lot more pizzazz than "premier." After three weekly online polls, Mr. Hampton has seized the lead in the race to become Campaign Megastar.

For the second week running, visitors to the Campaign Megastar site voted Mr. Hampton best performer. The voting took place during a week in which Mr. Hampton hammered home NDP promises to roll back post-secondary tuition fees and freeze bus and subway fares across the province.

When the poll closed, Mr. Hampton had captured 45 per cent of the votes, compared to 36 per cent for Conservative leader John Tory. Liberal leader Dalton McGuinty nearly doubled his support from the previous week with 19 per cent of the ballot, but that still left him the unchallenged recipient of the Turkey Award, Campaign Megastar's booby prize . . ."
