National Fallen Firefighters Foundation Receives $7,000 Donation From Village Inn and Bakers Square Restaurants

Participating Restaurants Contributed a Portion of Proceeds Earned and Collected Donations During National Fire Prevention Week

EMMITSBURG, MD--(Marketwire - October 25, 2007) - The National Fallen Firefighters Foundation (NFFF) today announced the receipt of a $7,008.24 contribution from VICORP Restaurants, Inc., the owner of Village Inn and Bakers Square restaurants. Participating restaurants nationwide contributed a portion of the proceeds from every entrée sold from 4 p.m. until close on Monday, Oct. 8 as part of National Fire Prevention Week. Additional donations were collected from Village Inn and Bakers Square guests Oct. 7-13.

"The National Fallen Firefighters Foundation is deeply grateful to VICORP for its generosity and support," said Chief Ronald J. Siarnicki, executive director of the NFFF. "Every year, an average of 100 firefighters die in the line of duty across the United States. It is our job to comfort their survivors and assist them in rebuilding their lives. The funding from Village Inn and Bakers Square, and their kindhearted guests will help us immeasurably in accomplishing that goal."

The money raised will help fund Foundation programs that honor those who have lost their lives in the line of duty and that provide aid to their family members and co-workers.

"We are proud to honor the brave men and women who have given their lives to protect our families and communities," said Ken Keymer, CEO of VICORP Restaurants, Inc. "We feel deep sorrow at the death of each firefighter killed in the line of duty, and we greatly appreciate the support given to their families by the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation. We applaud the work of the Foundation and its commitment to both reducing the number of line-of-duty deaths and caring for the loved ones of fallen comrades."

About National Fallen Firefighters Foundation (NFFF)

The United States Congress created the NFFF to lead a nationwide effort to remember America's fallen firefighters. Since 1992, the nonprofit foundation has developed and expanded programs to honor fallen fire heroes and assist their families and coworkers. With the support of fire and life safety organizations and funding from Fireman's Fund and the Department of Homeland Security, the NFFF launched a major initiative to reduce firefighter deaths. Its goal is to reduce line-of-duty firefighter deaths by 25 percent in five years. More information about the NFFF can be found at www.firehero.org.
