Nationwide Vegan Bakesales to Help Raise Money for Haiti Earthquake Victims

PORTLAND, OR--(Marketwire - January 22, 2010) - Vegans around the country are joining forces in a very sweet way to help raise money for victims of the recent earthquake in Haiti. From Portland and San Francisco to Minneapolis and Atlanta, vegan bakesales will be taking place during the last two weekends in January (January 23 & 24 and January 30 & 31). Leading the efforts is Isa Chandra Moskowitz, best-selling author of "Veganomicon" and "Vegan Cupcakes Take Over The World," who is rallying volunteers on her popular website, Post Punk Kitchen (www.theppk.com).

Urban sidewalks will be overflowing with animal-free desserts such as chocolate chip cookies, fudge brownies, raspberry shortbread, and coconut cream cupcakes, with all proceeds going to benefit various charities that provide relief to earthquake victims. Vegan cuisine is one of today's hottest food trends and is free of all animal products, including eggs and dairy.

Following is a partial list of scheduled bakesales:

Chicago, 1/31 @ Greenheart
