Natural Resources Canada: Government of Canada Advances Energy Roundtables

MILTON, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Sept. 23, 2009) - The Government of Canada is inviting a wide range of senior decision-makers from government, industry, the academic community and other key sectors to participate in the next steps for advancing renewable energy production and clean energy research and systems in Canada.

Today, the Honourable Lisa Raitt, Minister of Natural Resources, announced the date for the first of three national roundtable sessions during an address on Canada's energy future to the Milton Chamber of Commerce.

"The movement towards a clean energy future for Canada is plain for all to see, with tremendous growth or leading-edge development of new technologies," said Minister Raitt. "Our Government is working to keep the momentum going strong, and these roundtables will ensure that all the key stakeholders play a part in determining the best path for our energy future."

The first national roundtable, which will focus on Integrated Community Energy Solutions, will take place on October 23 in Milton, Ontario. Minister Raitt announced the creation of the roundtables in early September at the Council of Energy and Mines Ministers' meeting in Newfoundland and today stated that invitations to stakeholders to be part of the roundtable discussions will be issued in the coming days.
