Need for Alzheimer's Care via Assisted Living Drives Demand at New Boston-Area Senior Community

Windsor Place of Wilmington More Than One Quarter Full Just Two Months After Opening

WILMINGTON, MA--(Marketwire - December 10, 2009) - Windsor Place of Wilmington, a family owned assisted living residence for seniors, announced today that only two months after opening, it is ahead of schedule having leased more than one quarter of its luxury residences. These include The Carlysle suites designated for individuals with memory impairment due to Alzheimer's disease and related disorders. Windsor Place management also reported that it has hired 55 staff and expects to employ 70 when the community is fully-leased. Windsor Place is located at 92 West Street, Wilmington, Mass. (just minutes from Interstates 93 and 95).

"Windsor Place has been warmly received by healthcare providers, elderly advocacy groups, community and political leaders, and, most importantly, seniors and their families," said Dennis Sargent, Executive Director of Windsor Place. "We're delighted to expand our family business to meet the acute need for assisted living and housing for seniors with Alzheimer's and related disorders. And it's also gratifying to create new, skilled jobs for area residents at a time when they are sorely needed." Sargent and the Paino family also own and operate Woodbriar of Wilmington Rehabilitation & Skilled Nursing Center.

Assisted living residences offer an independent choice for senior citizens living on their own who enjoy the comforts of home but who require assistance with activities of daily life. Assisted living is a viable option when 24-hour skilled nursing and rehabilitative care is not required. Individuals choosing assisted living are cared for by professional staff recruited and trained to provide empathetic assistance to aging adults.

Rising Incidence of Alzheimer's Disease

The national Alzheimer's Association estimates that more than 5 million Americans suffer from Alzheimer's disease or a form of dementia, and that number is forecast to increase by 10 percent in 2010. The World Alzheimer Report 2009 from Alzheimer's Disease International, the umbrella organization of Alzheimer associations around the world, states that "People with Alzheimer's and other dementias are often specifically excluded from residential care, where it exists, and often denied admission to hospital facilities. Disturbed behavior, common among people with dementia, is particularly poorly understood, leading to stigma, blame and distress for caregivers."(1)

"There is a clear need to provide the specialized care that individuals with Alzheimer's require," said Sargent. "The Carlysle at Windsor Place meets the medical and personal safety needs of seniors coping with the disease while preserving individual dignity and providing a stimulating, comfortable environment," he added.

Windsor Place offers a continuum of care to meet the changing needs of residents. In addition to assisted living apartments where several levels of housekeeping, personal care and medication management services are available, Windsor Place offers specialized, comprehensive help for residents with advanced needs. Suites at The Carlysle at Windsor Place have enhanced features and programs designed for residents with memory impairment resulting from Alzheimer's and related disorders. Long-term skilled nursing care is available at the adjacent Woodbriar of Wilmington Rehabilitation & Skilled Nursing Center.
