NetApp Showcases 10-Gigabit Ethernet Performance and Efficiency at Supercomputing 2009


SUNNYVALE, CA--(Marketwire - October 26, 2009) - As part of the Ethernet Alliance, NetApp (NASDAQ: NTAP) experts will participate in a multivendor demo at SC09 to demonstrate the performance and efficiency of a unified and converged data center fabric using 10-Gigabit Ethernet (10GbE). NetApp will showcase file and "block" storage network protocols running on a single unified 10Gb Ethernet wire, including Fibre Channel over Ethernet (FCoE), iSCSI, and NFS. Ninth Annual Linux Kernel Summit

In October, Brian Pawlowski, chief technology officer at NetApp, and his office sponsored the ninth annual Linux Kernel Summit in Tokyo, Japan. The Linux Kernel Summit brought together the world's leading core kernel developers to discuss the state of the existing kernel and to plan the next development cycle. This annual two-day conference is invitation only and focuses on development and innovation through sessions and workshops that encourage interaction and discussion between kernel developers and industry leaders. SNIA

Also in October, SNIA announced that NetApp employees were elected to several leadership roles within the SNIA organization. SNIA members elected Alan Yoder, member of the Technical Staff at NetApp, as chair of the SNIA Board of Directors. David Dale, director of Industry Standards at NetApp, was elected as vice chair of the SNIA Board of Directors. The SNIA Board is charged with oversight of the association's vision and mission and ensuring that tangible value accrues to member companies.

David Dale was also elected to the Solid State Storage Initiative (SSSI) Board of Directors. The SSSI fosters industry education, growth, and success of solid-state storage in both commercial and consumer environments.

NetApp also became one of the founding members of the new SNIA Cloud Storage Initiative in October. The Cloud Storage Initiative focuses on promoting cloud storage as a new delivery model that provides elastic, on-demand storage. For more information, visit www.snia.org/forums/csi/.
