Netbook Summit to Focus on Most Popular Consumer Devices

Internet Pioneer Larry Roberts to Be a Featured Speaker at First Silicon Valley Conference to Explore the Netbook

SAN DIEGO, CA--(Marketwire - April 20, 2010) -  Conference ConCepts announced Netbook Summit, a new Silicon Valley conference and exhibition dedicated to the ongoing revolution in low-cost mobile computing, which will take place May 24-25 at the Hyatt Regency San Francisco Airport. The event will also cover emerging categories like tablets and how they will impact both the market and end users. The Consumer Electronics Association recently reported that 12% of US households own netbooks and 42% plan to buy them, which would indicate over 50 million units in the US alone.

"No single product category has transformed the computer industry more during the last five years than the netbook," said Mark Spoonauer, Netbook Summit conference chairperson and editor in chief of LAPTOP Magazine, the summit's premier media sponsor. "If you want to be successful acquiring netbooks, creating products for them, or working with them at any level, don't miss the first annual Netbook Summit."

The Netbook Summit featured speaker will be Larry Roberts, Chairman of Anagran and one of the recognized four founders of the Internet, who will address "The Internet: Past, Present, and Future." Keynote speakers include Leslie Sobon, Vice President Worldwide Product Marketing at AMD; Ben Thacker, Vice President of North America Distribution, Sales, and Product Management at ASUS Computer; and representatives of NVIDIA and Dell. Eric Tilton of the Fresno Unified School District (CA) will describe how a technology leader has integrated 10,000 netbooks into its educational offerings.

The Netbook Summit will provide attendees with practical information on understanding the role of netbooks, using netbooks effectively, providing security and backup, netbooks in education, making netbooks perform better, and selecting platforms for applications. The Netbook Summit will include tutorials, presentations, panels, expert tables, market research, keynotes, and exhibits. It will be well-suited for both experienced users and those evaluating the flexibility and capabilities that netbooks can bring to new applications. It will also offer a place for microcomputer, desktop, or technology managers at all experience levels to check out new offerings, share insight, and learn from leaders in the field.

Netbook Summit is the first Silicon Valley conference to focus on netbooks, streamlined mobile devices designed for the Internet and allowing users to stay connected on the go. They are optimized for low weight and low cost rather than computing power. They are typically less expensive and less powerful than traditional notebooks or desktops. Netbooks are small, thin, lightweight and energy efficient portable computers that have experienced explosive growth among consumers, students, and even business users looking for an easy to use, mobile, and cost effective alternative to a full size notebook computer. They are also ideal for uses in education, data collection, services, law enforcement, and medical and retail applications -- great as well for children, seniors, and others who don't need a full-sized notebook.

Other participating companies in the Netbook Summit include Adobe, ARM, Atheros, AT&T, Broadcom, Citrix, Clearwire, DeviceVM, enTourage Systems, Engadget, jkOnTheRun, MOUSE Squad, Marvell, McAfee, Mobinova, Mozy, Muvee, Netbook News, Nokia, NVIDIA, Phoenix Technologies, PC World, Qualcomm, Stoneware, Skype, Syncables, Synaptics, and Toshiba.
