Network of Nonprofit Health Clinics Streamlines Financial Systems With WebFOCUS

Information Builders' BI Technology Rehabilitates Dialysis Clinic Inc.'s Reporting Processes to Support Life-Extending Therapy

NEW YORK, NY--(Marketwire - March 24, 2010) - Information Builders, an independent leader in business intelligence (BI) solutions, today announced that Dialysis Clinic Inc. (DCI) is standardizing on Information Builders WebFOCUS BI software to help its financial staff analyze, display, and share information. The nonprofit healthcare provider plans to extend WebFOCUS reports and dashboards to 260 clinics nationwide.

DCI's finance staff struggles to manually access and merge information from multiple information systems into consolidated reports. This lack of self-sufficiency forces the staff to rely heavily on the IT department whenever they need new reports. Information Builders' extensive Enterprise Information Management (EIM) capabilities, which were the strongest of all of the BI products that DCI evaluated, will allow the finance staff to more easily access all of DCI's information sources. The IT department has already begun using WebFOCUS to automate tedious information management tasks, reaching directly into DCI's information systems governing general ledger, fixed assets, accounts payable, cash management, budgets, financial auditing, cost reports, and payroll. Once the BI environment is fully deployed, managers will be able to drill down through parameterized forms to collect information and monitor accounts. If certain line items within an income statement are outside of expected norms, such as drugs, medical supplies, or nurses' salaries, WebFOCUS will send an alert to the pertinent manager.

"We have a wide range of financial reporting needs, but our finance team has to login to several different systems and manually combine information to monitor accounts and control costs," said Sue Munson, DCI's financial IT manager. "We are using Information Builders' reporting and dashboard technology to simplify financial and administrative processes. WebFOCUS acquires data from multiple sources, automates user reporting, and provides user-friendly tools for query and analysis."

Once the new reporting environment is fully deployed, users will be able to choose columns as well as sort criteria, measures, and output formats as they generate their own personal reports. This will eliminate many hours of manual re-keying from paper documents or copying and pasting information into spreadsheets. WebFOCUS automatically generates native Excel formulas, and translates numeric values and dates into supported Excel equivalents. Giving business users this much flexibility will make the organization more efficient and allow the IT team to spend more time pursuing strategic initiatives.

"Managers need to be able to get their hands on current information to monitor organizational performance and manage costs, but that's difficult when these workers must depend on the IT department to access and analyze the information," said Gerald Cohen, president and CEO at Information Builders. "With reliable information in their hands, DCI will be better prepared to cope with the myriad challenges of today's healthcare marketplace and deliver better care to patients."
