Network security market up 8%; IPS segment is hot; secure router sales jumping

CAMPBELL, CA--(Marketwire - October 11, 2007) - Worldwide network security appliance and software revenue is up 8% in 2Q07 after a slight dip the previous quarter, and is expected to end the year on a high note, says Infonetics Research in its latest "Network Security Appliances and Software" report.

"Cisco, Juniper, Check Point, and Fortinet all posted strong growth in the network security market this quarter, with Cisco adding $50 million in revenue and 2 points to their market share," said Jeff Wilson, principal analyst at Infonetics Research.

"The IPS segment is hot right now, as IPS solutions are well designed to handle blended threats," Wilson added. "Growth in this market reflects a reaction to shifts in attack patterns."

Other highlights from the report:

--  Worldwide IPS revenue is up 17% in 2Q07 from 1Q07
--  Secure router sales increased 12% in 2Q07; Juniper has quadrupled
    their share compared to their first quarter in this market
--  VPN and firewall appliances and software make up 86% of network
    security revenue in 2Q07 (down 1 point); IDS/IPS makes up the balance at
    14% (up 1 point)
--  Worldwide SSL VPN gateway revenue is up 4% in 2Q07; Cisco, Juniper,
    and Citrix all gained share in this market this quarter
--  Cisco continues to lead the overall network security market, with 41%
    of worldwide revenue in 2Q07, followed by Juniper and then Check Point
