New Collaboration Helps Medical Professionals and Consumers Identify High-Quality Dietary Supplements

The Collaboration Includes: Natural Medicines Comprehensive Database, United States Pharmacopeia (USP), Consumer Reports

STOCKTON, CA--(CCNMatthews - January 16, 2007) - Therapeutic Research, the publisher of Natural Medicines Comprehensive Database, Prescriber's Letter, and Pharmacist's Letter, announced today that "USP Verified" information on dietary supplements will now be available in Natural Medicines Comprehensive Database. It will appear in both the PROFESSIONAL and the CONSUMER versions of the Database.

Natural Medicines Comprehensive Database provides unbiased, evidence-based, clinical information on natural medicines. Medical professionals rely on this resource for ratings on safety, effectiveness, interactions, and other clinical information about natural medicines. A separate CONSUMER Version of Natural Medicines Comprehensive Database provides similar information, in easy-to-understand language, for consumer use.

Through the new collaboration with USP, Natural Medicines Comprehensive Database will feature information on finished brand name products whose ingredient purity and overall quality have been "verified" by USP. USP verification involves rigorous testing and auditing to identify if a dietary supplement product, voluntarily submitted to USP by the manufacturer, consistently meets USP's high standards. Dietary supplement products that meet USP's criteria are awarded use of the USP Verified Mark. The Mark assures that the product:

-- Contains the ingredients listed on the product label, in the declared
strengths and amounts
-- Does not contain harmful levels of contaminants
-- Will break down and release ingredients in the body within a specified
amount of time
-- Has been made under Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs)

With this new joint effort, dietary supplement products that have been awarded the USP Verified Mark are now identified with this mark next to their listing in Natural Medicines Comprehensive Database.

Now, for the first time, medical professionals are able to get comprehensive information on thousands of natural medicines including Therapeutic Research's trusted ratings on safety, effectiveness, interactions, as well as confirmation of purity and quality for USP Verified products, all together in one source. Natural Medicines Comprehensive Database puts all this data easily accessible, either online or on PDA.

Jeff Jellin, PharmD, Editor-in-Chief of Natural Medicines Comprehensive Database, Prescriber's Letter, and Pharmacist's Letter, stated, "We are excited about this relationship because USP is the world's most trusted authority on the purity of ingredients in pharmaceutical and supplement products, and Natural Medicines Comprehensive Database provides the most trusted clinical data on safety, effectiveness, and interactions. Putting the expertise of both organizations together in one resource will help thousands of professionals make better decisions regarding dietary supplements, and will help thousands of consumers to get reliable information about natural products."
