New Hall, New Faces at Canada's Sports Hall of Fame

Sports Hall Announces the Appointment of a new President and CEO

Attention: Sports Editor TORONTO, ONTARIO, MEDIA ADVISORY--(Marketwire - April 16, 2010) - The new home for Canada's Sports Hall of Fame is beginning to emerge from the ground at Canada Olympic Park, in Calgary, Alberta. It is scheduled to open its doors in June, 2011.

With the future of the new Hall secure, Tim Casgrain, Chairman of the Hall's Board of Governors today announced the appointment of Claire Buffone-Blair as the new President and Chief Executive Officer of the Hall.

Sheryn Posen, Chief Operating Officer of the Hall, who has led the effort to find a new home and funding for the Hall, will assume the role of Executive Consultant to the Board's Executive Committee, responsible for the completion of the construction of the new Hall. She will continue to direct the 2010 special events, including the Hall's annual Induction Dinner to be held this November in Calgary.

In this new role, effective June 7, 2010, Buffone-Blair will lead the organisation and establish the operations and procedures for the new national home and its programs, including its national outreach program.

Buffone-Blair is leaving her position at Own the Podium where she was the Director, Planning & Operations. During her four years at Own the Podium, she was responsible for creating the organization's administrative and financial systems, establishing corporate policies, and leading the development of a national, multi-party communications strategy. She worked extensively with Canadian national sport federations and with corporate and government partners of the Vancouver 2010 Organizing Committee. Prior to her role with Own the Podium, she held positions with the Canadian Centre for Ethics in Sport and the University of Calgary.
