New "On Demand" Taxi Service Begins at Norman Y. Mineta International Airport

Taxi San José Commits to Delivering High Service Standards to Taxi Guests

SAN JOSE, CA -- (MARKET WIRE) -- September 16, 2005 -- Taxi San José, a coalition of taxi and door-to-door shuttle companies, cab drivers, the South Bay Labor Council and the San José Convention & Visitors Bureau, today announced that its new standard of "On-Demand" dispatch services has been implemented at the Norman Y. Mineta San José International Airport. This new level of service allows visitors entering and departing the city via San José International a faster and more hospitable response for taxi service.

Taxi San José's employees have undergone extensive training to provide guests with superior "On-Demand" dispatch service. In addition to providing prompt service at both Airport terminals, Taxi San José employees will also serve as ambassadors of the City, welcoming visitors and offering concierge information as needed.

The new "On-Demand" system requires taxi drivers to hold a special permit. Only 195 permits were issued to individual drivers and 105 permits were distributed among 14 taxi companies. Additionally, to ensure that service supply remains steady, the number of drivers servicing the Airport will be reduced. Permitted drivers will only be allowed to operate at the Airport on alternate days. Overall, the permit-based system allows Taxi San José to maintain a high level of service and performance standards.

"Our goal is to differentiate San José by creating a great visitor experience," said Daniel Fenton, chairman of Taxi San José and president and CEO of the San José Convention & Visitors Bureau. "In most cases, a visitor's experience starts and ends at San José International. With Taxi San José, the moment a visitor steps outside the airport terminal, we hope to provide the red-carpet reception."

"Taxi San José demonstrates clearly that all participants in the industry can come together for the common good," said Philip Bump, Vice Chair of Taxi San José. "Cab and shuttle companies, drivers and local organizations have joined together to ensure that visitors to San José experience the best of what our industry and our city have to offer."
