New President and Council Take APEGBC Into 89th Year

Outgoing President, Timothy Smith, P.Geo., Eng.L., will formally induct elected candidates at the Association's 88th Annual General Meeting in Whistler, B.C. on Saturday Oct. 27, 2007. The election process, as prescribed by the Engineers and Geoscientists Act, and work of APEGBC's Council allows the professions of engineering and geoscience to enjoy the privilege of self-regulation.

Founded in 1920, APEGBC is the regulatory and licensing body for the professions of engineering and geoscience. With over 24,000 members, APEGBC is one of the larger professional associations in BC and maintains high academic, experience and professional practice standards. APEGBC members deliver real world solutions to meet the technological and social challenges of the 21st century.

Biography of APEGBC President: Janet Benjamin, P.Eng.

Janet Benjamin, P.Eng., has over 20 years of consulting experience in energy efficiency and sustainable transportation on four continents. President of Vireo Technologies Inc., a company that is developing plug-in hybrid electric vehicles, Ms. Benjamin is also co-founder of Power Smart Inc.

She received her Bachelor's degree in Agricultural Engineering from McGill University and a Master's degree in Business Administration from the Schulich School of Business, York University.

She was appointed by Governor in Council as a member of the National Round Table on the Environment and the Economy. This body is dedicated to exploring new opportunities to integrate environmental conservation and economic development in order to sustain Canada's prosperity and secure its future.

Ms. Benjamin is married and has two adult daughters.
