New President and Council Take APEGBC Into 91st Year

VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(Marketwire - Oct. 16, 2009) - The Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of BC (APEGBC) has elected a new President and Council for the 2009/2010 term. The election results are as follows:

Elected candidates will be formally inducted at the Association's 90th Annual General Meeting in Victoria, B.C. on Saturday Oct., 17, 2009. The election process, as prescribed by the Engineers and Geoscientists Act, and work of APEGBC's Council allows the professions of engineering and geoscience to enjoy the privilege of self-regulation.

Founded in 1920, APEGBC is the regulatory and licensing body for the professions of engineering and geoscience. With over 26,000 members, APEGBC is one of the largest professional associations in BC and maintains high academic, experience and professional practice standards. APEGBC members deliver real world solutions to meet the technological and social challenges of the 21st century.

Biography of Russ Kinghorn, P.Eng. - President of APEGBC

Russ Kinghorn, P. Eng. is a Professional Engineer with over 25 years of experience in business consulting, mechanical engineering and project management. He currently provides integrated business planning and decision support models for the coal and forest industries in Canada, the USA and Australia.

Mr. Kinghorn will be formally inducted as President of the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of BC (APEGBC) on Saturday Oct. 17, 2009 at the Association's 90th Annual General Meeting. Mr. Kinghorn's previous positions with APEGBC include: Vice President of APEGBC's Council for the 2008/2009 term, Councillor for four years, chair of the Professional Practice Committee, member of the Team of Engineering and Geoscience Task Force, advisor to the Professional Renewal Task Force, chair of the Branch Representatives and chair of APEGBC's East Kootenay Branch.

Mr. Kinghorn is a member of the Cranbrook Rotary Club having served on its executive for four years. He serves on the Cranbrook Arches Committee, a group dedicated to revitalizing Cranbrook's downtown core. He has also been a volunteer with the Tetra Society in East Kootenay.

Mr. Kinghorn received his Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the University of British Columbia in 1981 and his Masters of Business Administration, Management Science & Information Systems from Simon Fraser University in 1991.
