New Tier 1 Visa Plans Propose Easier UK Entry For Graduates

LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM--(Marketwire - Dec. 22, 2009) - Under proposals outlined in a recent report commissioned by the Home Office, more graduates could be eligible for entry into the UK under the Tier 1 (HSMP replacement) scheme. The Migration Advisory Committee (MAC) report has suggested that Bachelor degrees should be taken into account when processing applications for visas. This will mean that in the New Year, millions of qualified migrant workers who are not currently eligible for entry into the UK will be able to apply for a visa.

This is part of measures outlined by the Government in their Highly Skilled Migration Programme (HSMP). This has since been replaced by the Tier 1 scheme, which aims to help those with desirable professional skills, qualifications and experience to gain entry into the United Kingdom.

Tier 1 is the first of a new 5 part immigration system to assess eligibility for UK entry. Applying for a Tier 1 visa is an applicant led process and removes the need for candidates to apply for a UK work permit visa. Successful candidates gain the right to live and work in the UK, seek and undertake employment, set up a business or become self employed as they see fit.

The application process is based on a points system, which includes factors such as age, qualifications and previous earnings. This is designed to allow entry to those who will contribute the most to the UK economy. Based on a similar system used in Australia and Canada, candidates are also required to be proficient in the English Language.

London-based Global Visas is a specialist immigration consultancy with over 15 years experience in the sector. They offer a full UK visa service to cater for all tiers of the new immigration system. The consideration of Bachelor degrees in the Tier 1 application process has been welcomed by Director Liam Clifford, who commented:

"The MAC report to the Government suggesting they now accept Bachelor degrees is fantastic news for UK employers. It is a fact that we do not produce enough highly skilled workers and if the UK is to maintain its competitive edge as a nation of invention and progress, our employers need to be able to attract and retain the best candidates from around the world."

Continued:

"Those highly skilled individuals who want to make the UK their home and contribute to our economy can not currently do so. The UK can only benefit from having these highly talented and motivated people in our work force."
