New Web Saver 5 Tariff: The Cheapest yet from British Gas

LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM--(Marketwire - Dec. 8, 2009) - British Gas has launched a brand new online-only energy tariff, WebSaver 5, which is already topping the best-buy tables in six UK regions.

WebSaver 5 replaces the previous WebSaver 4 tariff with a cheaper deal for those consumers who can manage their accounts online and pay by monthly Direct Debit.

As well as being cheap and convenient, the new tariff also promises to track the energy prices offered by British Gas's standard tariff and undercut them by at least 6 percent until the end of February 2011.

Chris Eagle, commercial manager at Energychoices.co.uk, said "This tariff from British Gas is an extremely welcome addition to the UK market, especially as the weather gets colder.

"But, as this tariff is best for 'average' consumption, we'd recommend customers compare energy prices of the whole market to find out whether it's right for them. It's easy to find out which tariff is cheapest for you if you know how much you normally spend."

Customers can sign up for gas or electricity only, or opt for the dual fuel tariff which covers both on the same bill. Switching away to another tariff before 30 June 2010 will incur an early termination fee of Pounds Sterling 30 per fuel.

Those customers with an average fuel consumption will find that WebSaver 5 is now the cheapest of British Gas tariffs, if they live in an area with one of the following as the local electricity supplier:

- East Midlands Electricity

- Manweb

- Scottish Hydro-Electric

- Scottish Power

- SWALEC

- SWEB.

Households in areas outside of the ones listed above will find that new supplier OVO Energy is still their cheapest option for dual fuel.
