Newcastle Minerals Ltd.: Drilling Program Well Advanced on Snip North Copper-Gold Porphyry Mineralization Zones

VICTORIA, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(Marketwire - Oct. 17, 2007) - Newcastle Minerals Ltd. (TSX VENTURE:NCM) is pleased to announce that the six-hole, 1,200-meter core diamond drilling program on its Snip North Property, located in the Iskut River area of northwestern British Columbia, which commenced in early October, is proceeding as planned and that two-thirds of the proposed drilling is complete. The bulk of the drilling program is designed to test the strike, width, and depth extensions of a zone (the "Main Zone") of copper-gold porphyry mineralization outlined during the 2006 drilling program. One hole will test a newly defined area of porphyry style mineralization known as the East Zone.

To date, Holes SN 07-01 through SN 07-04 cumulating in 796 meters of NQ core have been drilled and delivered to the core logging, splitting and sampling facility at the south end of the Bronson Airstrip. Hole SN 07-01 has been logged, split and sampled and the core forwarded to ACME Laboratories for analysis of copper, gold, silver and molybdenum. Holes SN 07-02 and SN 07-03 are currently being logged and sampled.

The 2007 drilling program on the Main Zone consists of five drill holes (SN 07-01 through SN 07-05) over three separate north-south sections testing porphyry copper-gold mineralization over a strike length of approximately 600 meters. This 2007 drilling program will complement and in-fill the 2006 drilling program.

In addition, a sixth step-out drill hole (SN 07-06) is planned to test a north-south section on the East Zone, 625 meters to the east of the defined Main Zone. The East Zone is defined by porphyry style copper-gold mineralization and alteration, and fine grained, east-west trending and steeply south dipping, Upper Triassic / Jurassic sediments similar to the Main Zone, and has not been previously drill tested. Results for the East Zone, reported in 1987 by Meridor Resources, the former owner of the property, are described in BC Assessment Report 16,679. That sampling consisted of five grab samples of narrow quartz and pyrite veins and one grab sample of a gouge zone that ranged from 10 to 20 cm width, and two grab samples of mineralized country rock. The grab samples were collected over a 100 meter east-west strike length on a steep south facing cliff/hillside on the north side of a southwesterly flowing stream. The 1987 results are as follows:

- The gold values range from 0.23 to 8.40 g/t with seven out of the eight samples ranging from 0.23 to 0.97 g/t.

- The copper values range from 0.004 to 0.29% with seven out of the eight samples ranging from 0.09 to 0.29%.

- The silver values range from 1.2 to 36.6 g/t with seven out of the eight samples ranging from 4.0 to 36.6 g/t.

The drilling of the East Zone is designed to test its copper-gold porphyry potential.
