Newton Energy Corporation Announces Directors and Officers

CALGARY, ALBERTA--(Marketwire - June 5, 2009) - Newton Energy Corporation (the "Company" or "Newton") is pleased to announce that all matters placed before meeting of shareholders of the Company held on June 4, 2009 were passed. Michael J. Frey, Merv Chia, Thomas Milne, Bruce Williams and Christopher Hopkins are returning as directors of Newton and the directors welcome Richard Schmitt as a new director of the Company. In conjunction with his appointment as a director, the Company has granted to Mr. Schmitt an option to purchase a 120,000 common shares of the Company at $0.20 per share for a period of five years on similar terms and conditions as the options granted previously to other directors of the Company. Subsequent to the shareholders meeting, the directors appointed the following officers:

Thomas Milne as Executive Chairman;
Michael J. Frey as President and Chief Operating Officer; and
Barry Sadrehashemi as Vice-President, Finance, Chief Financial Officer and
