NexGen Digital Adds Solderability Testing to Its In-House, Anti-Counterfeit Laboratory Process

OEMs and Contract Manufacturers Using NexGen Digital Services Can Reduce the Time-to-Market of Electronic Components and Spend a Fraction of the Typical Cost on Device Authentication

IRVINE, CA--(Marketwire - August 24, 2010) -  NexGen Digital Inc. now counts solderability testing among the suite of services offered within its in-house, anti-counterfeit laboratory. The new process allows NexGen Digital to authenticate electronic devices for original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and contract manufacturers by evaluating the solderability of terminations, such as leads, lugs, terminal and wires.

"Sending components out to a third party for solderability testing can take up to two weeks and cost several hundred dollars," said Lisa Taylor, chief executive officer, NexGen Digital. "By offering this service to our customers in-house, we can conduct testing the same day typically. This reduces delivery time from weeks to hours and is performed at a fraction of the cost."

The solderability testing system provides anti-counterfeit detection of components through a number of procedures, including dip-and-look method and wetting balance analysis. Device package terminations are assessed by dip-and-look test method of axial, through hole and surface mount devices. This method determines the solderability of device package terminations that will be joined to another surface using lead (PB) or PB-free solder attachments. NexGen Digital has the capability to test components for lead and PB-free applications. During testing, NexGen Digital adheres to rigid industry standards, such as Mil and IPC/JEDEC.

This process adds yet another cost-effective solution to NexGen Digital's already robust in-house lab. In July 2010, the company also rolled out a decapsulation Jet Etch service, which identifies counterfeit devices by using acid to remove outer layers that encapsulate complex, high-density parts.
