Noblesville Schools Earns the ENERGY STAR®

NOBLESVILLE, IN--(Marketwire - January 21, 2010) - Noblesville Middle School has earned the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA's) prestigious ENERGY STAR® award, the national symbol for superior energy efficiency and environmental protection. Noblesville Schools is now distinguished in the top 2% of public school buildings nationwide for energy conservation and the ENERGY STAR certification. Bob Wede, Performance Services, presented the award at the Noblesville school board meeting on Tuesday evening of this week.

To earn the ENERGY STAR, the administration and facilities staff of Noblesville Schools partnered with Performance Services, an Indianapolis design-build engineering company specializing in optimal learning environments and energy savings for new construction and renovation projects in K-12 public schools. A guaranteed savings renovation project completed in January 2009 resulted in dramatic utility bill savings of $333,875 as compared to the base year, reduced energy usage by 57%, and enhanced the learning environment. Schools that earn the ENERGY STAR use less energy than most buildings and release fewer greenhouse gas emissions into the atmosphere. Indoor air quality standards are part of the qualification process that must be certified by a professional engineer. Greenhouse gas eliminated with this project is equivalent to 1,611 metric tons to date.

Dr. Libbie Conner, superintendent, said, "We are very excited about this important achievement. It's rewarding for our team, working collaboratively with Performance Services and Energy Education, to transform the least energy efficient building in the corporation into an ENERGY STAR. In these days of shrinking budgets, saving energy wherever possible makes great economic sense. Lowering our utility bills at the middle school by more than $300,000 means a great deal to us. The EPA award and ENERGY STAR plaque is a tangible symbol of our priorities and strong example we wish to set for our school and taxpayer community."

"It's our pleasure to work with Dr. Libbie Connor, Dr. John Atha, Jeff Bragg, Tim Sturgeon, and the entire facilities staff at Noblesville Schools. It's rewarding to support their ongoing energy conservation efforts and create a quality learning environment for every student," said Tim Thoman, President of Performance Services, an ENERGY STAR partner.
