Nortel Extends Availability of WiMAX in Caribbean and Latin America with Brightstar as New Integrator

Venture to Increase Market Share, Acquire New Customers for Nortel

SUNRISE, FLORIDA--(Marketwire - Oct. 3, 2007) - Nortel(1) (TSX:NT)(NYSE:NT) is focused on achieving global market share and tapping new customers with its selection of Brightstar Corp. as a new reseller of its Mobile WiMAX solution in the Caribbean and Latin America. Brightstar is a global leader in customized distribution and supply chain solutions for the wireless industry.

Under the terms of this agreement, Brightstar will leverage its extensive customer base to resell the Nortel solution to specific categories of customers who do not currently have access to Nortel carrier equipment in the Caribbean and Latin America. Brightstar will also employ its extensive distribution channels and logistical capacity in Latin America.

"We expect this agreement will help Nortel gain access to previously untapped markets and customers," said Alex Mercado, WiMAX leader, Nortel Caribbean and Latin America. "In turn, Brightstar will supply its service provider customers with Nortel solutions that will help them meet the demand for mobile video and other high-bandwidth services on a multitude of devices in an increasingly hyperconnected world."

Nortel's end-to-end WiMAX solution addresses the key issues of broadband wireless, including the ability to support a wide variety of applications with varied quality of service requirements, while driving down OPEX costs. Nortel's WiMAX ecosystem includes MIMO technology expertise and power-efficient base stations that are instrumental in providing service providers with a simplified approach to seizing the WiMAX opportunity.

"The combination of Nortel's world-class WiMAX system capabilities with Brightstar's market reach and access to communications devices, results in a very exciting solution set for our WiMAX customers," said John Bonadurer III, WiMAX general manager, Brightstar. "Given the depth and quality of the Nortel infrastructure, along with the wide array of terminals that Brightstar distributes, we can offer an excellent go-to-market solution and dynamic offering to the market."
