Nortel Highlights IPTV Solutions That Provide Greater Programming Choices, New Revenue Opportunities at Telco TV Show

Demos, Presentations Showcase Video Capabilities

ATLANTA, GEORGIA--(Marketwire - Oct. 16, 2007) - To enable service providers to offer state-of-the-art video services like mobile video, video on demand and premium content to their customers, Nortel(1) (TSX:NT)(NYSE:NT) is demonstrating end-to-end IPTV solutions at the Telco TV trade show in Atlanta, Oct. 23 to 25. The demos will feature video solutions that provide new revenue opportunities and provide competitive differentiation to increase subscribers.

"We are showing operators how to deliver video easily, cost-effectively and comprehensively, without having to create an infrastructure that is put together with disparate systems that may or may not work together. Instead, we've made this very complex service simple with an end-to-end solution that is pre-tested and pre-integrated," said Sameer Sheth, general manager, Video Solutions, Nortel. "Our demonstrations showcase real-world deployments and how service providers can implement solutions for whatever their video needs may be, including video on demand, serving protected premium content and delivering mobile video."

Nortel technology demonstrations at Telco TV will feature:

- Blended Communications and Entertainment: Shows operators how to leverage their voice infrastructure, the demo will show how the integration of voice capabilities opens up new revenue opportunities with a differentiated video service. This capability allows consumers more flexibility and choice for their communications with integrated telephony and video functions. This includes video calling, picture sharing, IM from the television, as well as caller ID, call waiting and click-to-call capabilities.

- Secure Video: Illustrates how service providers can protect content from piracy, a key factor in being able to deliver premium content. Nortel's demo will feature a home vignette that shows high-definition video via computer and other services that can be added seamlessly and more importantly, securely.

- Any Content, Anywhere, Any Time: Demonstrates the advantages of a single subscriber sign-on where customers can access their content, including video on demand, on mobile devices as well as share video with friends on different mobile devices through only one username and password.

Nortel subject matter experts will also present at Telco TV:

- The Road to Seamless Services will be presented at the Opening Telco TV Roundtable Oct. 23 by Ghassem Koleyni, Nortel IPTV standards leader and ITU-T focus group chairman.

- The Multi-Platform Experience during the general session Oct. 24 will be presented by Sameer Sheth, general manager, Video Solutions, Nortel.

- Three Screen Convergence: How Do You Get There? will be presented, during the Applications/Interactivity Track, Oct. 25 by David Ress, Nortel Video Solutions architect.

Nortel's IPTV solutions enable wireline service providers to deploy a secure, reliable, and scalable IPTV infrastructure to deliver the entertainment and communications services that consumers value. By adding television, and television-delivered applications to the list of services that can be offered to their subscribers, telcos can generate new revenues and create new service bundles for enhanced competitiveness, revenue generation, and customer retention.
