Nortel Dominates the North American Softswitch Market with 59 Percent Share and in EMEA with 29 Percent Share

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - June 8, 2009) - Recently published reports from Dell'Oro Group and Infonetics Research continue to rank Nortel(1) (TSX:NT)(OTCBB:NRTLQ) as the worldwide leader with the largest revenues in the carrier softswitch market for the first quarter of 2009.

Nortel's vision and execution in the carrier softswitch market continues to pay off. According to Dell'Oro Group, Nortel hasranked #1 worldwide based on softswitch revenue for the past seven years. In Dell'Oro Group's recently published Carrier IP Telephony report 1Q 2009, Nortel maintained its global leadership position for softswitches with 20.3 percent global market share.
