Northern Star Announces Further Results From 2007 Surface Diamond Drilling Program

VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(Marketwire - Dec. 12, 2007) - Northern Star Mining Corp. ("Northern Star" or the "Company") (TSX VENTURE:NSM): is pleased to announce further drill hole results from its 2007 diamond drill program.

In 2007, Northern Star carried out 16,500 linear meters of surface diamond drilling on four specific targeted areas on the Malartic-Midway project. Hole MM 07-85 (section 2+00W) is the first of a series of 15 drill holes on the "Briar Zone" target. The drill holes were designed to position the recently announced decline (see press release December 6, 2007), and to target the mineralized gold zones.

Results are as follows:

HOLE # From (m) To (m) Core length (m) Grade (g/t Au) Rock Type

MM 07-85 221.4 298.2 76.8 (251.9ft) 1.55 (0.045opt) Porphyry
+ gabbro

Including 287.3 297.3 10.0 (32.8ft) 8.51 (0.248opt) Gabbro

-Core lengths are fairly close to true width

The hole was designed to confirm the geometry of the gold mineralization at the "Briar Zone", and was also carried out as part of the Company's QC (quality control) and QA (quality assurance) programs, part of the resource estimate presently underway.

Drilling by Northern Star (2003 to 2006) intersected larger widths than usually encountered in previous historical drilling on the project prior to 1990 (SEDAR 43-101 Technical Report).

This hole confirms the presence of a significant envelope of gold mineralization where the mineralized porphyries are in close proximity to the mineralized gabbros.

These gabbros of the Briar Zone also show locally better grades than the average grade recovered at the Malartic Goldfields Mine from 1939 to 1965.

A reinterpretation of the gold mineralized structure on section 2+50W (50 feet west of 2+00W), indicated results in drill 04-50 (previously announced July 26, 2007) of:

HOLE # From (m) To (m) Core length (m) Grade (g/t Au) Rock Type

04-50 174.2 261.6 87.4 (286.7ft) 2.13 (0.062opt) Porphyry
+ gabbro

Including 254.0 261.6 7.6 (25.1ft) 14.06 (0.410opt) Gabbro

Following last week's press release, announcing the construction of a decline, the Company continues its surface installation work which is progressing well. The Company expects to begin actual portal installation and decline advancing by February 2008.

The decline will have an initial planned vertical depth of 750 feet and its surface portal will be located approximately 4,000 feet southeast of the Company's Shaft No. 1 where current progress on the original planning is awaiting further engineering studies. This engineering work is needed to safely access underground via its 3,000 foot deep Shaft No. 1.

The decline is designed to access, explore and develop certain mineralized zones located north of the portal entrance, at the 450 foot level, and will extend to access other zones underneath the old townsite of Halet, including mineralized gabbro and porphyry bodies as intersected by Northern Star's 2003, 2004 and 2005 drill programs.

The construction of the decline will be funded by the Company's recent financing of $17,925,000 U.S. of 2 year senior secured notes as announced on November 27, 2007.

Mr. Gilles Gauthier, an experienced underground mine operator has been named project manager, and Mr. Paul Cregheur, mine consultant, will aid in the planning and overall supervision of the decline construction and underground development work.

Finally, the Company is compiling and awaiting further results from its 2007, 16,500 linear meters surface diamond drilling program on the Malartic-Midway project. The company will continue to release results as available. The Company has also begun initial compilation of its recently acquired Callahan project, (Press release, October 31, 2007) with plans to begin drilling on the project end of Q1 2008. The Callahan project, located some 1.6km northeast of the Company's Malartic-Midway project, consists of 79 claims covering 2,181 hectares (5,387 acres).

The Malartic-Midway project is located some 16km west of Val-d'Or, Quebec, approximately 1km south of the main regional highway. The past producing Malartic Goldfields Mine is present on the property (production 1939-1965, 52.5 tons Au) (ref: E. Lemieux, Cambior Piche report 1996), and consists of 116 claims covering 3,142 hectares (7,763 acres).

Claude P. Larouche, Geol. Ing. (OIQ) acts as the qualified person of the Company and has reviewed the contents of the news release. The diamond drilling and exploration programs are being carried out under the direct supervision of C.P. Larouche, Ing, (OIQ) The company is maintaining strict standards for QA (quality assurance) and QC (quality control), by keeping under lock all drill cores, rejects and pulps for further testing. Samples were sent to ALS Chemex labs in Val d'Or, Quebec.
