Northern Star Mining Corp.: Updated Technical Report NI-41-101 Filed on SEDAR

VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(Marketwire - Oct. 24, 2007) - Northern Star Mining Corp. (TSX VENTURE:NSM) announces that is has completed and filed on SEDAR (www.sedar.com) a NI-43-101 compliant updated technical report on the Malartic-Midway project.

A previous technical report filed in 2004 covered only the central portion of the mining claims and did not discuss the results of the diamond drilling being completed by NSM in 2003. Furthermore, new mining claims adjacent to the main mining property were added, namely the Piche-Harvey property, which significantly adds to the gold exploration potential of the area. This previous technical report also stated that, "After reviewing in detail the procedures for Quality Assurance and Quality Control, C. Belanger ing, concluded that the resource estimate by Geologica Groupe-Conseil in 1988, could be classified as diluted and in-situ Measured Resources of 495,923 tons (450,020 tonnes) grading 0.158 opt Au (5.42 g/t Au) and Indicated Resources of 231,578 tons (210,144 tonnes) grading 0.208 opt Au (7.13 g/t Au)."

The recent Updated Technical Report covers in detail the different acquisitions of the Company adjacent to and including the "core" property. It also compiles the results of all previous and recent diamond drilling completed by NSM, within the limits of the mining property. The author also discussed the importance of the porphyries on the mining property - "Recent compilations and research projects indicate that, in the mined area, porphyries are among the latest intrusions, are usually highly mineralized and always present close to the mineralized diorite-gabbro irregular masses, which were mined out. Recent drilling by NSM confirmed the importance of these gold-mineralized porphyries in locating gold mineralized sections of economic interest within the gabbro-diorite. Now similar porphyries are targeted for large tonnage low-grade operations either at surface or underground, Osisko on the Malartic project and Agnico-Eagle on the Goldex project respectively. Minerais Lac has also detailed mineralized porphyries with characteristics very similar to the Osisko porphyry-ore during the period of 1981-1990 on the two Barrick mining leases being negotiated by NSM. Values of 1.50 g/t Au over 26.5m up to 3.9 g/t Au over 16.9m have been intersected in the 1980's by Minerais Lac surface diamond drilling. During the same period of time, Minerais Lac was also drilling the Canadian Malartic porphyries. The exploration model being adopted be NSM takes into consideration recent published geological, geophysical and geochemical compilations and re-interpretations of the old data by the Company's geologists and consultants. A new interpretation of existing data led to the recent success of the Goldex and Osisko projects on adjacent properties. Knowledge and techniques exist today that will permit bulk mining on surface and underground. The author believes that a similar geological situation exists on NSM property and this possibility has not yet been fully tested."

The drilling completed by NSM during the period 2003 to 2006 was largely guided by recommendations made in the original resources estimate completed by Geologica in 1988. This drilling was very successful at confirming and extending previous mineralized zones and also identifying new gold bearing structures. Mineralization of economic interest is hosted within gabbro dykes and appears dependant on the degree of fracturing and the amount of disseminated pyrite.

The Author of the Technical Report was also mandated to complete a new "Resources Estimate" on the Northern Star mining property, taking into consideration the results of recent diamond drilling completed by NSM during the period of 2003 - to date. The estimation NI-43-101 compliant is in progress and will be completed before February 2008. All previous and recent data has been entered into GEMCOM - this data is being audited and will serve as a base for the new resource estimate.

The following "resources estimates" have been completed on the claims over the years.

The above resources are historical in nature having been estimated prior to May 30th 2003 (CIMM current and adopted guidelines). The Company is not treating these historical estimates as current mineral resources as defined under 43-101.

The Author has proposed and budgeted recommendations for the next phase of exploration on the property.
