Northern Star Mining Corporation: Preliminary Results From the 2007, 30,000 Meter Diamond Drill Program

VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(Marketwire - Oct. 3, 2007) - Northern Star Mining Corp. (TSX VENTURE:NSM) is pleased to announce preliminary results from the 2007, 30,000m surface diamond drilling program.

The exploration drilling is focused on porphyry type mineralization in order to identify the potential for large volume, lower grade type mineralization (Osisko - Canadian Malartic, Agnico-Eagle Goldex types).

Four targets are presently being tested with two diamond drill rigs.

Chabela Target Zone

A total of five (5) holes, MC-07-75 to 79 were completed for 803 linear meters. The Chabela Zone may represent the eastern extension of the gold mineralization at Midway Shaft #1 located 300 meters to the west.

Results included:

HOLE # From (m) To (m) Core length (m) Grade (g/t Au)

MC-07-75 112.20 115.75 3.55 4.21
MC-07-76 90.10 92.35 2.25 1.29
MC-07-77 113.50 117.30 4.25 0.91
MC-07-78 74.70 77.70 3.00 1.36
Including 90.60 91.65 1.05 7.04
MC-07-79 41.00 57.60 16.60 3.40
Including 41.00 42.50 1.50 13.55

Piche-Harvey South Porphyry Target

Five stratgraphic drill holes, MH-07-80 to 84 were drilled on one section at the eastern end of the Piche-Harvey property for a total of 1,830 meters. Large sections of porphyry with variable amounts of quartz veins and disseminated sulphides were encountered. Anomalous gold values of up to 0.3 g/t Au over 24 meters were encountered in the first three holes.

Results from the remaining two holes have not been received as yet.

A new series of drill holes MH-07-100 to 112 were recently begun on the Piche-Harvey property along the South Prophyry, in close proximity to the Osisko-Northern Star boundary, in order to better define these porphyries which cross the property for a length of over 1.3km.

To date, narrow sections with visible gold have been observed in quartz veining within the porphyry. Only a few assays have been received to date and include:

HOLE # From (m) To (m) Core length (m) Grade (g/t Au)

MH-07-102 210.90 244.00 33.70 1.10

The company is awaiting the results from an additional 1,150 samples which are presently at the commercial laboratory or in the process of being shipped.

Shaft No. 1 Midway Area

The porphyry associated with the main mineralized zone at Shaft No. 1 on the Midway project, is being detailed with drilling. To date, a total of 8 drill holes, MM 07-85 to 92 for a total of 2,667 meters have been completed. No results have been received as yet and over 800 samples are at the laboratory at present for assaying.

Previous diamond drill holes intersections within this porphyry are as follows.

HOLE # From (m) To (m) Core length (m) Grade (g/t Au)

GL-89-02 23.20 40.60 17.40 1.61
GL-89-03 54.30 78.40 24.10 1.19
GL-89-19 86.60 122.60 36.00 1.34
P-87-28 96.00 138.20 42.20 1.39
P-87-30 67.60 78.00 10.40 4.15
P-86-18 129.80 170.90 41.10 1.03
82-12 95.50 106.70 11.20 3.94

The porphyry appears mineralized for a known horizontal distance of roughly 2,000 feet (line 10+50W to line 7+00E) and has never been the focus of detailed exploration.

Dubuisson Goldfields Target

Ten (10) NQ diamond drill holes for 3,800 linear meters were completed on this target. Four (4) of these holes MC-07-66, 67, 68 and 69 were targeted at a narrow porphyry within Pontiac sediments south of the 'Cadillac Deformation Zone'. In this area, previous drilling in the 1930's reported a value of 3.6 g/ton Au over 3.65 meters within mineralized porphyry, which was also trenched on surface. Drilling intersected the porphyry, but only anomalous gold values were returned.

The other six (6) holes MC-07-65, 70, 71, 72, 73 and 74 for 3,792 linear meters were completed about 1,000 meters east-southeast of Midway Shaft #1 in order to locate the presence of mineralized porphyry similar to that present at the former Malartic Goldfields Mine and which may be a controlling feature of the gold mineralization.

Of significant interest, is hole ME 07-74 which intersected mineralized porphyry with 5% tourmaline veinlets along with 5% grey quartz and 1% pyrite.

The drill hole returned the following:

HOLE # From (m) To (m) Core length (m) Grade( g/t Au)

MC-07-74 515.70 542.00 26.30 1.50
including 515.70 530.00 14.30 2.46

The new intersection is located on the same cross-section 300 meters below historical drill hole D-48, drilled in the mid 1930's and which returned 2.78g/t Au over 5.75m.

All samples were sent to ALS Chemex in Val-d'Or, Que., and were assayed using a 30-gram sample with fire assay finish. Pulps and rejects were recovered and returned for future check and verification purposes.

Mr. Claude Larouche, geol., ing. (OIQ) acts as the qualified person for the Company and has reviewed the contents of this news release. The geological, and other information stated conforms to published reports available to the Company during their due diligence.

The Company is very pleased with these initial results for its diamond drill program and notes that over 1,950 samples are presently awaiting assay.

The Company is also pleased to announce that it has retained the services of Mr. Paul D. Cregheur, mining consultant, to aid in the planning and supervision of the Company's underground exploration program on the Midway-Malartic project.

Mr. Cregheur is well known and experienced in the mining industry, having been associated with numerous mining projects. He was, until recently, president of Wesdome Gold Mines Ltd.

The Midway-Malartic project is located some 16km west of the city of Val d'Or, Quebec, some 1km south of the main highway. The past producing Malartic Goldfields Mine is present on the property (production 1939-1965, 52.95 tons Au), (ref. E. Lemieux, Cambior, Piche report 1996), which consists of 3,142 hectares (7,763 acres).

The Company will publish further news as available.
