OFL CALLS FOR GOVERNMENTS TO WORK TO SETTLE LAND CLAIMS

Attention: Assignment Editor, Media Editor, News Editor, Government/Political Affairs Editor TORONTO, ONTARIO--(CCNMatthews - June 2, 2006) - The Ontario Federation of Labour is gravely concerned about the land claims issue in the Caledonia area. Land claims negotiations are taking far too long to resolve in Canada. The recent situation in the Caledonia area points to why provincial and federal governments need to pursue proactive, responsible and peaceful negotiations in a timely manner to address this long-standing land claims matter.

The Ontario Federation of Labour represents 700,000 members in Ontario. The organization works with the Aboriginal community on many issues that affect their community. We urge both levels of government to work with the aboriginal community to come to peaceful land claim settlements as soon as possible.
