OMA Announces 2009 Awards of Excellence Recipients

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Oct. 21, 2009) - The Ontario Museum Association is pleased to announce the 2009 Awards of Excellence and congratulates the 5 recipients for their outstanding contribution to Ontario's museum community:

Receiving their Awards of Excellence from The Honourable Aileen Carroll, Minister of Culture, Annemarie Hagan, Chair of the Awards Committee, and Tammy Adkin, President of the OMA, will be the following recipients:

- Daniel O'Brien - Recipient of the Award of Excellence for "Lifetime Achievement"

The Ontario Ministry of Culture Museum Advisor will be recognized for Lifetime Achievement, noting in particular, his extensive volunteer committee work and commitment to provide guidance and mentorship to significant numbers of Museum Studies and Arts Management students and culture program interns over the years. It is fitting that Mr. O'Brien will be receiving his award in his native city of Hamilton.

- CHOO / COPO - Council of Heritage Organizations in Ottawa/Le Conseil des organismes du patrimoine d'Ottawa - Award of Excellence for their innovative and effective e-newsletter "This Week in Heritage / Patrimoine hebdomadaire"

- Bruce County Museum & Cultural Centre, Southampton - Award of Excellence for their creative, interactive family program "Wizardry & Wonders"

- The OPP Museum, Orillia - Award of Excellence for the outstanding and engaging travelling exhibit "Arresting Images: Mug Shots from the OPP Museum"

- Friends of Joseph Schneider Haus, Kitchener - Award of Excellence for the exceptional publication "This Old Haus: A Place in Time " which eloquently captures 25 years in the history and growth of the museum.

The Awards of Excellence recipients will be honoured on Thursday, October 22, 2009 at the OMA Awards Banquet held at the Art Gallery of Hamilton, during the Annual Conference in Hamilton.
